he is not comparing Limbaugh to Hitler (i might, though).
he is comparing the situation allowing the nazis to become so powerful to the situation today; in which desperate people are offered ridiculous solutions and, with no other options, the public welcomes the support and a list of the people they ca collectively blame. by default, he criticizes the “left-wing” media for not offering an answer to peoples fears that is not eccentric and mutated but still true, yet strong and believable.

Chomsky is a populist in certain regards. He doesn’t despise the provincialism ( “xenophobic” libertarianism”) of the American right. What he is criticizing is the misinformation offered by some of our leaders. He is not writing from a partisan perspective. If anything he puts the actual grievances of Weimar in an almost flattering light. He understands that Americans right now are being marginalized, having elitist liberal ideals like race egalitarianism imposed onto them.

This man is not a “liberal” in the way the term is commonly understood, and his criticisms of America and Israel are damn right. What he’s telling people is that the things all the elites are doing are bad for the traditional base of America. Democrats have never offered solutions with their idealistic naivete and continuation of Bush era neoliberal/neocon policies, and supposed “conservatives” are offering quick-fix dangerous solutions and this is cause for concern. He’s right, like usual.

More importantly, you should be proud that the conservative Supreme Court just gave away the American electoral process to the influence of corporations.
